Blue Hill Memorial Hospital has hired Kim Gourley, RN, as a nurse manager. Gourley will oversee the care of hospitalized patients including those who have recently had surgery. She will also manage the hospital’s growing infusion and oncology unit.
Gourley received her nursing diploma from Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing in Nova Scotia and has been a nurse since 1993. Her experience includes 10 years at Eastern Maine Medical Center (EMMC) in various capacities. Before coming to Blue Hill, Gourley was the clinical education coordinator at MDI Hospital.
The hospital’s chief nursing officer and vice-president for clinical services, Ann Louise d’Entremont, is pleased with the outcome of the search process. “Our hospital’s future rests on its ability to provide outstanding and highly personalized care to our patients,” says d’Entremont. “Kim is the right nurse to lead our inpatient unit at this time, particularly as we see more patients with acute needs and continue to expand our surgical services.”
Gourley admits that she wasn’t looking for a new job, but that the position in Blue Hill proved too hard to resist. “My new position is challenging and a good fit with my past clinical experience. I started my nursing career in a small hospital and Blue Hill Memorial Hospital feels like ‘home’ to me.” Gourley also describes herself as very lucky to be working in a field that remains exciting and rewarding for her. “I love being a nurse – I really do.”
Gourley lives in Ellsworth.
