Dr. Arthur “Art” Newkirk, a physician at Blue Hill Family Medicine, is Blue Hill Memorial Hospital’s new chief of staff.
He replaces Dr. Thomas Bugbee, a colleague at Blue Hill Family Medicine who will focus on patients within his primary care practice. As chief of staff, Dr. Newkirk represents the medical staff of the hospital, with specific responsibilities in areas such as physician credentialing, peer review, and oversight of the medical staff committees. He will work closely with Dr. Kathleen Ober, who was recently appointed as Blue Hill Memorial Hospital’s chief medical officer.
Dr. Newkirk has worked for Blue Hill Memorial Hospital since 1981. He notes, however, that every day is different. “I love the contact with patients and the variety that comes with practicing family medicine.”
“Art brings a wealth of experience to Blue Hill Memorial Hospital and its patients,” says interim CEO Erik Steele, DO. “He is highly regarded by patients and colleagues alike. We are lucky to have him.”
