Kathleen J. Ober, MD, FAOG, MMM will address the topic of “Every Day Choices: Beating the Odds of Cancer, Osteoporosis and Other Women’s Health Concerns” at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 3 at the Mount Desert Island YMCA in Bar Harbor. Dr. Ober’s talk is part of the YMCA’s ongoing “Talk and Walk” series.
Lisa Tweedie, who manages programming for the YMCA, was pleased to add Dr. Ober’s talk to the YMCA’s scheduled activities. “Our mission is to develop community, character, personal growth and wellness in spirit, mind, and body for the greater MDI community,” she says. “Dr. Ober’s talk is a perfect fit for the needs and interests of our members and local women in general.”
Dr. Ober has been seeing patients at Blue Hill Women's Health Care, a practice of Blue Hill Memorial Hospital, since February of 2009. “I came to Maine to make a difference,” explains Dr. Ober. “It has been a pleasure to partner with organizations such as The Jackson Laboratory, Downeast Business and Professional Women, and most recently the MDI YMCA to identify and address the health care needs of our region’s women.”
Dr. Ober’s practice provides a full range of well care services, including family planning and prenatal care, to women. Patients in her practice range from 15 to 98 years old. She diagnoses and treats common problems such as osteoporosis, and specializes in state-of-the-art surgery to eliminate heavy menstrual periods and incontinence and laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomies to treat endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain, and other gynecologic problems. Many of Dr. Ober's surgical procedures reduce post-operative pain, minimize recovery time, and are less time-consuming and expensive than approaches such as a traditional abdominal hysterectomy. “Many women live with inconvenience and pain when they don’t need to,” explains Genice Billings, RN, manager of Blue Hill Women’s Health Care and a Deer Isle resident. “Dr. Ober’s procedures have already helped many women resume an active, worry-free lifestyle.”
Dr. Ober comes to Blue Hill following more than ten years of practice at Partners for Women's Health in Exeter, New Hampshire. She also worked at an obstetrics and gynecologic practice in Omaha, Nebraska. Family ties attracted Dr. Ober to the Blue Hill region.
Blue Hill Women's Health Care provides caring, high-quality, comprehensive services to women throughout their lives. Providers give thoughtful attention to women's health issues, and focus on providing preventive medical care along with the information needed to make healthcare decisions.
