A Personalized and Private Hospital Stay
We understand that the thought of a hospital stay can be anxiety-provoking. Many patients worry not only about their own experience in the hospital, but also about their loved ones at home and their jobs.
While we know that there is “no place like home,” we promise to do our very best to ensure that you have an outstanding experience while hospitalized in Blue Hill. We pride ourselves in treating our patients like our very own family members.
Blue Hill Memorial Hospital’s relatively small number of patient beds allows us to care for our patients in a highly personalized, compassionate, and professional manner. Fourteen of the 25 beds at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital are located in private rooms, providing patients and their loved ones with a measure of privacy that is not typical of all hospitals today. Depending upon our patients' unique needs, our rooms are also Internet accessible and pet friendly.
Special Care Unit (SCU)
We have two beds, in private rooms, available for those patients requiring special care and observation. Our SCU is equipped with special technology that allows our clinical staff to connect to intensive care experts at Eastern Maine Medical Center (EMMC), a regional tertiary care hospital that, like BHMH, is part of Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems. This program, which uses high definition videoteleconferencing, is called "Critical Care Connections."
Surgical Unit (SU)
Whenever possible, surgical patients receive private rooms where they also receive special post-operative care, such as physical and occupational therapies. We work closely with our surgeons to ensure a rapid recovery.
Skilled Nursing Program … Helping You Recover and Go Home
We provide special services for those patients who are preparing to go home after a major surgery, stroke, heart attack, or major illness.
Palliative Care… For Your Comfort
Our palliative care team will work closely with you, your primary care doctor and specialist(s) and others to mitigate pain and provide other symptom relief as needed. This service is often, but not always provided as part of end-of-life care.
Hospitalist Service
Blue Hill Memorial Hospital employs hospitalists who focus specifically on the needs of hospitalized patients and patients admitted to our emergency department. Our hospitalist team manages your care through the hospital, coordinating and consulting with your primary care physician and specialists, closely monitoring your progress, and staying in close touch with you, your family and your medical team.
Support Services… A Dedicated Team
Based upon your unique needs as a hospitalized patient, we will assemble a team that may include registered nurses, a dietician, rehabilitation therapist(s), pharmacist, diagnostic imaging technician(s), laboratory technician(s), case managers, housekeeping staff, and others to help ensure the best possible experience and outcomes.
Dietary Services
Our dietary services staff prepares nutritious meals that are suited to your special medical needs. We go the extra mile for you, with cage free eggs, hormone free milk, and organic, locally grown fruits and vegetables whenever possible.
Discharge Planning
Our dedicated, experienced staff will help you with issues ranging from insurance submissions to special equipment that is needed when you return home. This team has extensive community connections and can help you identify and secure the services you need.
