Blue Hill Memorial Hospital Earns Five-Star Rating for Patient Experience

Release Date: 04/30/2015

Earlier this month, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) released a new star rating system for hospitals. The rating system was created to help consumers be able to compare hospitals more easily on a relative scale. Only 251 hospitals in the United States received the highest rating of five stars. Blue Hill Memorial Hospital, a member of EMHS, is proud to say they are among this elite group of hospitals.
The CMS star ratings reflect patient experience surveys. “Employees at BHMH consistently strive to give personalized high quality care to our patients,” says Kathy Lirakis, chief nursing officer for Blue Hill Memorial Hospital. “The five star rating reflects our efforts, and I am very proud to work with this staff.” Blue Hill Memorial Hospital scored exceptionally high for patient experience in several areas including cleanliness, communication, and a quiet environment.
“I am thrilled to see that the government is recognizing that a patient’s experience of care is just as important as their quality of care,” says Amy Cotton, RN, EMHS vice president and chief patient experience officer.  “Our patients trust us to provide the highest quality health care service. To be recognized by those same patients for providing exceptional experiences of care is an honor and a real tribute to the hospital’s dedicated team members.” Compare results of multiple hospitals by visiting the CMS rating system at: http://www.medicare.gov/hospitalcompare/search.html.
