Release Date: 02/11/2014

Blue Hill Memorial Hospital (BHMH) is pleased to welcome Michael Murnik, MD to its medical staff.  Dr. Murnik has been appointed as Medical Director of Blue Hill Memorial Hospital Family Medicine.  He has been a staff physician for the past eight years at Ellsworth Family Practice of Maine Coast Memorial Hospital.  Dr. Murnik will start on February 24 and looks forward to practicing in and serving the community in which he and his family live.

Dr. Murnik is board certified in family medicine and received his medical education from University of Vermont, completing his residency at the University of New Mexico. While Dr. Murnik enjoys the diversity of family medicine, he has a special interest in family planning, office procedures, no-scalpel vasectomy, and patient-centered care delivery.

As part of his role as Medical Director, Dr. Murnik will participate in a leadership model, partnering with our vice president of provider practices, physician leaders, and practice managers to assure that clinical structure and operations are optimal, patient-centered, and focused on providing the best healthcare possible to our communities.  A portion of his time will also be dedicated to his own panel of patients.  Elizabeth Schidzick-Brunelle, vice president of physician practices, looks forward to orienting Dr. Murnik to BHMH’s family medicine practices.  “Having a Medical Director in place will allow us to focus on achieving our goals as Patient-Centered Medical Homes.  Improving primary care delivery is certainly a priority for BHMH; we are committed to meeting the healthcare needs of the people in our communities through exceptional care and service,” states Schidzick-Brunelle.

Blue Hill Memorial Hospital Family Medicine practices in Blue Hill, Castine, and Stonington provide compassionate, attentive care.  Providers have the ability to refer patients to a variety of specialty care services including cardiology, orthopedics, diabetes education, rehabilitation, oncology, general surgery, and urology in Blue Hill.  As a member of EMHS (Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems), BHMH also collaborates with multiple organizations within the system, such as EMMC and Acadia Hospital, to provide seamless specialized care for patients when necessary.

All BHMH Family Medicine practices have recently expanded office hours to include early morning and evening appointments to meet the needs of current and future patients.  Saturday clinics for existing patients were introduced this fall for weekend non-emergency conditions.
